the much anticipated album from lia is just about to drop. so far, her appreciation and understanding of all the music we love (claudine, france, nancy, twinkle, jeanette) has shone through so brilliantly on the songs she's released or made available on youtube. so her album has a lot to live up to...!
the first song released 'walking away' was understated and heartfelt, the second song 'sycamore tree' sees lia channelling her inner claudine longet - it's cute, genuine and most of all not a pastiche. i can't wait for the album (pleased to see 'party in the night' will be on it too)
as you know, i only post on here when i'm really feeling something - so i need to share this with you- introducing lia pamina. a spanish singer with a genuine adoration of all the things we love - 60s girl pop. her voice is great - like a modern day jeanette or claudine. here are a few videos of her to check out. 'how come i' was written for by roger gunnarson (sally shapiro, cloetta paris) - there is also a spanish version (como es). also check out 'party in the night' (my personal fave) and 'kingdom of heaven'.
JEANETTE - A HEART SO WARM AND SO TENDER
the very early 80's were a great period for her- so many of her songs around this time are just great. this is the english language version of her classic 'corazon de poeta'.
JEANETTE - I AM A REBEL
i love jeanette in spanish, i love jeanette in french, i now also love jeanette in english (with the exception of her 'love is blue' cover which is very disappointing). i hope you'll love jeanettes 'soy rebelde' in english too!
PIC-NIC - SAN FRANCISCO BAY BLUES
an early jeanette track from her pic-nic days. it really captures the mamas and papas vibe really well. enjoy! requested by bombong
to end the week i will leave you with 2 songs from the band jeanette started out with. originally pic-nic started out influenced by american folk pop- you can clearly hear the mamas and papas vibe here: PIC-NIC - SAN FRANCISCO BAY BLUES
but i prefer them more with this great sound where jeanette really shines: PIC-NIC - OI TU VOZ
