this must be the most intimate book available about jane and serge. lots of black and white family photos, serge pulling faces, having fun, the children at play - charlotte a cute little tomboy, jane laughing, behind the scenes snapshots - it feels like a personal insight in to their lives. also included is a short piece by jane to andrew and andrews memories of jane as a child and her life with serge - which i thought was just beautiful - and it's in english too!!! (which makes a nice change from having to slowly decipher a french text!). also included is an embroidered patch, stickers, a fold out poster full of candid photos and some contact sheets. wonderful
this is one of my most favourite songs. written by serge with a lush cinematic production. it's great to see this video - although it feels like a wasted opportunity to really make something more stylish and breathtaking.
ISABELLE ADJANI - C'EST RIEN JE M'EN VAIS C'EST
i really like her 1983 gainsbourg penned album - full of great songs - her voice and the songs sits perfectly alongside 80's jane birkin, charlotte gainsbourg and bambou.
LIO - BABY LOU
something a little less upbeat from the wonderful lio; a cover version of the gainsbourg / birkin classic. taken from 1982 album 'suite sixteen'.
other vinyl i got in paris:
charlotte gainsbourg - charlotte for ever 7"
francoise hardy - j'suis d'accord e.p.
les gam's - il a le truc oui les filles e.p.
marie laforet - vol xi e.p.
adriano celentano - prisencolinensinainciusol 7" - if you don't know it - check it out here - it's amazing!
SERGE GAINSBOURG - MANON
i'd never been to his grave before - i totally forgot to bring him any gitanes too, but good to pay respect to the man who had so much influence on the many dolls we love. i am posting this song because firstly he is a genius and secondly because i think it is just beautifully sad
FRANCE GALL - JE SUIS VENUE TE DIRE QUE JE M'EN VAIS how could i resist this repost request from meno? this song suddenly seemed to surface just six months ago - and i wouldn't want to deny anyone from missing out on it. it's just so bloody good!
FRANCE GALL - BLOODY JACK pictured here with jacques dutronc (don't worry, francoise gets' 'married' to someone else tomorrow!). an alternative version to teenie weenie boppie, infact it's an early example of a mash up! lyrically it's the same as serge gainsbourgs bloody jack. it remained unreleased until 2003.
