please leave comments and enjoy blowupdoll!
wonderful songs. terrible terrible film.
this trailer makes it looks like fun - it's not.
it starts out light and fun and then just dissolves into a mess of misery and characters you couldn't care less about. i knew it wasn't going to be anywhere near as good as les chanson d'amour - but i never imagined it could be this bad. such a shame.
i am in the mid way through reading amanda lears story of her time with salvador dali in 'my life with dali'. she writes brilliantly - her life sounds so exciting yet she is filled with melancholy. she even subtly addresses the transsexual issue by saying that dali gave male nicknames to all his female friends that the rumour started that his court consisted of transvestites. he then told everyone amanda was moses and a masculine angelic being! so then a newspaper ran the story that amanda was infact a boy. When she spoke to dali about this he exclaimed "but it is true! ive always said you were neither a boy nor girl".
hmmmm what do you think?! if you are lucky enough to find a copy of this book, i highly recommend it.
MARIE-CLAIRE COURCEL - Y'A UN BARBU
massive thanks to chris and aaron for ripping this so quickly after i posted my request! now our m.c.c collection is complete!
if you love the sound of 80s and 90s europop - surely you will love these.
the lyrics are hilarious. porno queen cicciolina- who knew she could sing too?! i want an album (seriously, i do!)!
i have been informed that there's a audio recording of marie-claire courcels 'y'a un barbu' at http://cgi.ebay.fr/MARIE-CLAIRE-COURCEL-1967-Swinging-Mademoiselle-French-mod-girl-Monte-Carlo-BIEM-/150751061647
is anyone able to rip this and post it to me and i'll share it here?
one of my all time favourite films is FREE and on youtube - and it is so rare and hard to buy, that it's amazing to find it here. go watch the 67 carnaby st pop-comedy 'smashing time' NOW!
also, a film i have been wanting to see for a long time is free too: 'les idoles' - unfortunately not with english subtitles - it's the 1969 french satire of the ye-ye scene.
when blowupdoll began in 2004, the third song i ever posted was by an amazing band called paris - who are not french but swedish. for a few years i fell in love with their harmonious bittersweet indiepop, then they disappeared.
5 years later they are back! i am so excited - if this first song 'say it' is anything to go by, their e.p. (released at the end of may should be amazing!
