VALERIE DORE - GET CLOSER i love early 80's euro disco pop and the italo disco synthesized sound. i of course especially love the accented, often fragile doll vocals. this song is a great introduction to the sound. the first time i heard this i froze with my mouth wide open- i was in shock! it is so marvy!
AMANDA LEAR - ALPHABET seriously, once i heard this i couldn't get over it. it's one of those so bad it's good soft euro disco numbers from the late 70's. and despite showing her breasts in this picture- you can't fool me amanda!
after she quit recording yé-yé, she released an album on the early 80's under the name of chantal bassi - does anyone have a copy? i would love to hear it. listen to one of the songs here: (it certainly pleases my 80's french pop button!)
CHANTAL KELLY - NOTRE PROF D'ANGLAIS
i would assume that this is her most known song but i thought it was still worth posting as it is billiant ... i am, you are, she is etc ... join in!
CHANTAL KELLY - CARIBOU
this amazing picture and song originally appeared on the brilliant (but now very quiet) spikedcandy and it has since become one of my favourite ck tracks. this song is up there with the best yé-yé doll pop.
CHANTAL KELLY - ATTENTION COEUR FRAGILE
who?! not as well known as fg, fh, sv etc but in her short career she managed to make some ace ye ye pop sounds that i think you'll all love.
PAY TV - FASHION REPORT i thought for the final post i'd get up to date. everything about this girl group is amazing - i know i use the word 'genius' quite a bit- but...pay tv: genius!
THE MCKINLEYS - THAT LONELY FEELING such a small picture for such a great song. again, i don't know anything about them - can anyone enlighten me?
thanks to jay who sent me a bigger and better version of the above picture but a special thanks goes to freddy who sent me this!: freddy writes: The McKinleys: In Germany they published some records as "Mc Kinlay Sisters". Her Names were Jeanette and Sheila. Sheila made some solo-recordings (Sheila McKinlay) in english and german. Later she was a member of the "Les Humphries Singers". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Humphries_Singers) Note: they were written "Kinlay" not "Kinley".
There are three records: -1967 (Fontana 269 363 TF): Wer nicht höhren will muß fühlen / All Night Girl -1967 (Fontana 269 353 TF): Bye, Bye, Bye / Was kann ich dafür -1968 (Fontana 269 404 TF): Große Katastrophe / Wie all die andern
THE TAMMYS - TRAPEZE i know this is an obvious choice- but it is totally necessary! such an amazing song with marvy backing vocals. if you don't already know this- prepare to be amazed! (the male voice is lou christie)
THE ORCHIDS - LOVE HIT ME
ohmygodilovetheorchids! they are possibly my most favourite girl group. i don't understand why a record label doesn't release an orchids compilation, including rare and unreleased songs - other obscure 60's girl groups have had one, why not these?
PAPER DOLLS - CAPTAIN OF YOUR SHIP these were around the same time as the cake- yet have a totally different sound. a british girl group, signed to pye, their names were tiger, spyder and copper (they liked wigs too!)
TWIGGY - HEAVEN IN MY EYES
yes! discotwiggs! this 1979 album had been shelved until a few months ago. written and produced by donna summers team - this is pure disco and i love it.
(does anyone have a better quality version they could email me?)
