happy birthday to me!
JEANETTE - JEREMIE
i love jeanette - sometimes she sounds so much like claudine longet. as it is my birthday i have treated myself to a rare jeanette album from 1977 where all the tracks are in french and it is produced andre popp. YES! I can't wait for it to arrive on my doorstep!
mysterious doll
PAMELA - LE JOUR OU (at least i think that is the complete title!)
the b-side to pamelas ace version of 'une autre autoroute'. i am pretty sure she also released one other record on vogue with 2 songs on - je t'aime un peu...beaucoup...passionement and les beaux jours - i don't suppose anyone has these songs?
walk like an egyptian
DALIDA - MAMA
i don't often post dalida on blowupdoll - although i do appreciate her drama and disco. here, she sings her version of chers 'mama, when my dollies have babies' (written by sonny bono)- which is one of my favourite cher tracks.
what the L?
just to give you a flavour of some of the french music i have been listening to recently (discovered via
filles sourires).
check out L
(i have changed to this clip above as the autoplay on the last one drove me mad!)
and melanie laurent
suck it
SYLVIE VARTAN - RENOWN
darby sent me this a while ago - it's sylvie singing in japanese for a commercial for renown clothing. it makes a nice little edition to your vartan collection.
check out the ad too!
Labels: french 60s, japanese, sylvie vartan
ronika electronica
i have high hopes for
ronika - she has a
mixtape on her myspace that i highly recommend - on the mixtape you can hear her influences, everything from shannon, chromeo and even some early house (we got this house under arrest!) -mixed in with a few of her own songs. if you want an early 80's influenced party mix - this is it.
check out 'forget yourself' - it's like a long lost gotham demo from madonna
stuck on repeat
FRANCE GALL - LA ROSE DES VENTSjust because it has been round and round in my head for days. beautiful.
florrie seems to be the hardest word
i have been really into florrie for a while and this song from her new e.p. - experiments - is fantastic.
for emmaline
CAROLE KING - I DIDN'T HAVE ANY SUMMER ROMANCE
emmaline has promised me her first born if i reposted this - i shall await your child in the post within the next year.
i absolutely love this song, it appears superficially very 'teen' but has so much more depth and heartache.
THANK YOU!
a massive thank you to all of you for your totally marvy mixtapes. there's been so much brand new music to get through - it will take me months to fully appreciate all of it!
it's already revealed some new dolls to investigate as well as reminding us about some classic doll tunes.
and thanks for leaving comments - it's been great for the people who created each mixtape to hear how you've responded to their choices.
regular blowupdoll posts by me will commence very soon...
thanks again everyone, you made mordi very happy :) x
bradleys mixtape
WASN'T IT YOU? - BRADLEYS MIXTAPE - zipfor the last mixtape post, i'll pass it over to long time blog buddy bradley who writes "this is my first try at a doll mix tape. most of the artists will be familiar to anyone who frequents mordi's fab site. but I wanted to make my first mix more of an homage to mordi and the groovy dolls who have become such a part of my soundscape. claudine, margo, dusty and france gall are included of course - as well as some obscure soundtrack doll selections just to keep it fresh. it's light on the french pop, but i will remedy that next go round. cheers"
bradley- fresh as always! ;)

patricks mixtape
CRAZY MOUSE - PATRICKS MIXTAPE - zippatricks aim was to surprise us with some new french sounds - and he has succeeded in creating a marvy mix. there is everything from the more familiar 60's sounds of annie philippe, to 80's lio to more current french dolls that are brand new to me.

scotts mixtape
SILVER SCREEN DOLLS - SCOTTS MIXTAPE - zipscott says "i hope you enjoy - there is a theme of film-related/actress
dolls to my tape, with the exception of a couple of fave non-film ladies that snuck in there……it's quite a random/eclectic mix, but that's my nature!"
i have to say there are some gems on this - sissy spacek with the classic 'john, you went too far this time' (a great track, even without the pigs blood), cher! jodie foster! lots and lots to love and love again! there is a tracklist and notes included in the zip.
