i meant to post this a month or so ago just after i'd been to amsterdam as it was the song of the holiday - played at regular intervals by my husband. so this post is for him. because he is lovely.
molly drake is infact folk legend nick drakes mother (and sci-fi star gabrielle drakes mother for any u.f.o. fans out there). an album of her home made recordings of songs she wrote herself in the 50s/60s has recently been released. the songs are filled with a gentle, intimate sadness that give us a sense of what nick was brought up listening to. molly has a slightly plumby english singing voice yet many of her lyrics are melancholic and the result is curiously charming. i hope you enjoy it.
p.s. -how i wish nico had sung this song too
and here's vashti singing 'i remember' - a song written by molly
LINDA PERHACS - HEY, WHO REALLY CARES
i know i've posted this before - but everytime i hear it, i feel the need to share! it's just gorgeous 1970s psyche folk music.
