This is why I love female vocalists from the Sixties, especially the European ones - a lot of the songs have this quality of being somehow a little bleak, yet simultaneously poppy. Ace stuff!
Me too davecat - I think opposing qualities give pop music a tension it needs to be great. A lot of the French pop not only does that so well within the music, lyrics etc but the girls themselves somehow combine a blasé quality with a cheerful one in their vocal delivery.

oops spelling mistake! i shall correct that!
and you don't use accents on capital letters- accents are missing from the mp3 as box.net doesnt always recognise 'foreign' accents!
