AMELIE MORIN - JIM after discovering amelie through the youtube clip of her performing this song, i thought it only fitting to finish this set of posts with 'jim' - possibly her best song. turn the volume up, get out of your seat and dance like elli medeiros to this marvy piece of electro pop.
if you are interested in finding out more about amelie morin- i highly recommend investing in the best of cd - full of weird and wonderful early 80's pop.
AMELIE MORIN - QU'EST CE QUI ME RACONTE UNE HISTOIRE DROLE one thing that's quite fascinating about amelie is how her songs are often reminiscent of other artists (almost by accident rather than intentional). Some songs sound like early mylene farmer, some are like lio, a couple are like the funkier jane brikin album tracks from the late 70's and there's even one or two that could easily fit at the end of the latest alizee album. yet despite all that there are still songs that have a style and sound that is totally her own and are like nobody else. this is one of those songs.
AMELIE MORIN - COMME UN PETIT SOLEIL APRES LA PLUIE just thought i'd spend the next few posts bringing you some more amelie. finding herself recording music though a chance meeting - she unleashed her baby doll voice to the world, her first single in 81 'j'etais venue pour dire bonjour' proved to be quite successful. In 82 a second album was released that features this song.
margo was the very first doll i posted on blowupdoll back in november 2004. for those of you who are not familiar with margo; she is a singer/songwriter from the late 60's who wrote songs you may already be familiar with- 'i think a lot about you' (mama cass), 'i don't intend to spend christmas without you' (claudine longet), 'think of rain' (astrud gilberto and claudine longet). margo has an amazingly gorgeous voice that turns twee notions of love into some great psyche influenced productions.
why haven't i heard about this catherine deneuve in a wig lookalike amelie morin before? this song 'jim' from 1984 sits brilliantly alongside lio and elli et jacno. ace! many of her songs are really credible and voice is totally doll - so why does it seem like she is relatively unknown?
